I have a question for you. Do you want to be apart of my “purpose” journey? I am embarking on a LIFE CHANGING opportunity to impact lives right here in Charlotte/ Grier Heights. I have been selected as the first US based Global Advocate fellow for Mama Hope, non profit organization that works around the world to complete sustainable, community-based programs that help to build and ensure thriving futures for under-served communities. Though they started their work in East Africa, Mama Hope is expanding their partnerships to US-based organizations to implement a new wave of change and their first partner is CrossRoads, an organization that is in partnership with the residents of the Grier Heights neighborhood in Charlotte and numerous other stakeholders of Grier Heights in the revitalization of the neighborhood. Their collective vision is that Grier Heights will be transformed residentially and economically, and the quality of life dramatically improved, with a constant focus on justice to its residents throughout the process.
Recently, I went to speak to the young ladies at Crossroads (http://crossroadscorporation.org/) about #shepassion, which is using what you are passionate about and turning that into profit. Instantly, I saw a shift in their confidence, their hope and belief in the possibility of become exactly who they want to be. Growing up in a single parent home had its challenges but I had an amazing grandfather who motivated, supported and encouraged me. With his love and care, I was able to see my dreams and look for opportunities to make them happen. Often times, we are trapped between our dreams and our reality and I want to close that gap using the amazing people in the community who are living the life they deserve - a purpose driven life.
In order to support these girls futures, I’ve committed to raising $20k for Crossroads. 100% of the funds I raise will go directly into the hands of this community by creating a youth entrepreneurship program. This program will educate the students from the ground up by creating a product, service or good to have sustainability within the community. Just imagine if the children created a signature sauce that can be sold in the local Whole Foods. This would make a profit to pour back into the community of Grier Heights not only on a monetary level but a DREAM LEVEL. In order to make this a reality, I need your help, the community. You can make a donation here. It is our duty to help the dreamers turn into believers by giving back to the community showing our youth that they can live the lives they deserve with intention, purpose and love.
